Current mood: Of Monsters and Men

20130206-133147.jpg

I am badly missing Singapore and Laneway as I find myself lost during lunch break, watching videos from Youtube. I still cannot believe I went there and saw Of Monsters and Men live! It was such a magical experience, as their music is to me. Lately, I either work or read about travel and I am still on a traveling high. Maybe it’s high time I explore the world more… And when I say more, maybe a few hundred (or thousand) miles away from home.

Six weeks is one of the memorable songs Of Monsters and Men played during the festival, and quite apt, it talks about going away and coming back. A little more than six weeks and I’ll be back flying again, I guess.

And maybe I’ll dread to come back because the world is ao beautiful and there is just so much to see.

Sleep, sleep all night
while the young, they wait alone.
Get up, shake the rust.
We crawl, we crawl, we crawl,
we crawl on the ground.

P.S. This is just a spinoff from my Singapore-Laneway series but I really wanna start it out on my new platform! I’m really working on it so please please please watch out for it!

Singapore-lah!

20130130-203421.jpg

I just came back from Singapore! And I have so much to tell you. I’ve been to Laneway Festival, temples left and right, and gad, the food — THE FOOD! I don’t know where to start, lah!

However, I am still organizing my thoughts and resting for work tomorrow. PLUS, I am still in my state of ecstasy and I am controlling myself not to book another flight anywhere. AH, TRAVEL. I have to save though – especially for my new blog this month…

Stay tuned in for my Singapore series!

Singapore and some others

DSC_0461

After two years (oh how I miss MTV Asia!) I’ll be back in Singapore, now for St. Jerome’s Laneway festival to be held at the new The Meadow at Gardens by the Bay. Now, I’ll have more time to go around to experience the famed lion city. I really cannot hide my excitement!!! OF MONSTERS AND MEN is playing among other amazing bands. I’m also excited for Kings of Convenience, Gotye, Kimbra, Bat for Lashes, ALT-J, and Polica! And that’s just the cherry on top! There’s a total of 14 bands playing (others are Tame Impala, Yeasayer, Real Estate, Nicolas Jaar, Japandroids, Cloud Nothings, and Divine Fits) Hope I win the Meet and Greet too! Teehee!

I’ll be live tweeting at the event… and mostly for my stay in Singapore. Thanks to Globe’s BridgeUnlimited unlimited surfing, it’s more affordable AND just easy to register but just the same reliable service we get while roaming. So if you wanna keep tabs on what’s happening during Laneway, feel free to follow @Jonver_David!

PLUS… I’m planning a blog reboot. Whew! I’ve been scared to tell here, because it’d be so much pressure, but now I’m really sure! Keep tuned in for developments and I hope you’re still ready to follow my blog in its soon-to-be new home.

Psyched!

Happy Birthday, Ella!

Dec 2, 2012, 2:27 PM

Last weekend, two of my best college friends and I went to a short-notice, unplanned Tagaytay roadtrip. So understood that I had my Friday full to the brim with events and stuff to do, I still pushed through with the trip in ol’ fashioned Jonver style – zero sleep, 100% caffeine. It was worth the trip, especially it was Ella’s birthday and we really wanted to do something crazy. And it’s Ella’s only day off from the hospital (she’s a nurse at St. Luke’s) so Hanna and I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to celebrate.

The clouds were so lovely that day, and even if my palpitations still haunt me up to this day, I’d still say it was a nice day. I wish to be back there with someone special who’s not currently talking to me :(

Okay, this is Ella’s moment. No spoiling that. Happy birthday again Ella! To more roadtrips!!!

And Hanna, please upload our Dawson’s Creek inspired photos. Pretty pleeeeeeeease?? Hehe :)

Tomorrow, the Nomad Manager along with some other brands will have a garage sale at Moonleaf Maginhawa under the Muni PH which aims to build a community of cultural creatives to influence healthy, responsible living to its full potential. I’d rather tell you to read their blog to know more about them.

And please go to their garage sale! Punchdrunk Panda, Vesti, Lagu, Jacinto and Lirio, and Caleb’s Closet will be there as well!

I’ll see you there, yes?

Boracay Long Weekend!

Oct 30, 2012, 6:07 AM

So I spent the long weekend last month (wow, it was one month already?!) I just came from La Union that weekend and one of the companies I work for, DGNTY, decided to go to Boracay with the whole team. It was crazy because I just came back to Manila that day to catch up with work and meetings, then the next time I knew I was on the plane to the best beach in the country world! Pardon the eyebags that I checked in along with my baggage. They’re heavy, ‘kay? :P

It was my first time to fly with Zest Air and my second time within the country. I have nothing much to compare it with. I just didn’t recall flights being delayed when you’re inside the cabin already, so when that happened, I was really bummed, bored, and worried. It was a seamless flight though. It wouldn’t be my first choice next time, but I was happy to arrive in Kalibo safe and sound.

Meet the gang! I was with the happiest people in the island! The whole team (L-R: Carlos, Julianna, Adrian, Thysz, Bobet, and Jan) was so ready to throw everything at the back of our heads and #RegretBoracay. It’s an #InsideJoke, don’t mind it :)

Nov 1, 2012, 1:08 PM

On our first three days, we stayed at Coco Huts at Station 1… AND. IT. WAS. JUST. THE. BEST! It looks like a cabin (uh, bear with me, my SD card just gave up on me, rest its memories *crey*) and we got the biggest room for a discount. Army Navy is conveniently situated downstairs, with some bars like the Sandbar is just a few sandy walks away. It’s also near Station 2 – to D’Mall and the island’s party scene! Everything is at your reach, so it’s just perfect! They have no wi-fi though, and for seven netizens and whose work relies heavily on the internet, we were kinda in for an involuntary internet sabbatical.

On connection issues, I wasn’t really on a sabbatical,’cause my phone’s on 3G all the way! Thanks to Globe who already strengthened the connectivity on the island with fiber optic technology. Now who said you can’t enjoy without unplugging yourself? Not anymore!

Oh say hi to the very sexy Thysz, my boss, btw hahaha! On our third day, we transferred to Boracay Pito (7) Huts which is a sister hotel company of the former place we stayed at. We needed to transfer because the other two days that we’ll be at Boracay was booked ahead of time at Coco Huts. Anyway, this one’s way further at Station 3, where the scene is much more serene, the party’s sober, and there’s plenty of relaxing to do. I particularly noted the Tree House in this part of the island where lodging and restaurant is propped on a tree! Cool idea and eyeing it actually for my next visit (soon!)

Oct 31, 2012, 6:58 PM

Now what to do in the island? It’s almost Halloween when we got there, so everyone’s crazy about costumes and parties! When I was spending some alone time at Jonah’s, where they serve the best fruit shakes in the island, I was thrilled to see kids and kids at heart in costumes and on the way to their respective parties. There’s a lot of bars to drink at Boracay – we went to Epic, Summer Place, and Juice Bar; each having their own crowds and yes, expensive drinks.

In this island was where I realize I can only tolerate three days of straight partying. On our third day, everyone was crazy for a post-Halloween party (didn’t even know such a thing exists!) I was on lolo mode when I decided to go home alone, grab a chocolate bar, and iPad myself to sleep. Trust me, there’s nothing but the ocean breeze (I kept the veranda doors open) and good ol’ sleep.

Nov 1, 2012, 4:25 PM

And of course, what else to do for this blogger; what with the ocean as a backdrop, and the breeze so cool against your skin? I was really inspired to write. And I guess, there’s one thing I’m forgetting to tell you about. Boracay may be a party hub, but give yourself even a fraction of a day to look into yourself and reflect. The beach is a such a good medium to introspect.

It’s best with beer, some cigs, and the vast ocean mirroring how equally vast the future is.

I’ll be back, Boracay.

P.S. Forgive the lack of pictures in this post, I know it’s a travel post, and you must be demanding some more photos to look at… There’s Google for now, haha! When my SD card magically defibrillated itself back to life, I’ll be back with more photos! Thanks for your patience, hihi :)

Hello, I miss you

20121109-141740.jpg

It’s been more than one week since I posted here, and I’ve been itching to blog about a lot of things (especially, my long weekend at Boracay!) but I’ve been really busy and tired… and yes, lazy haha (huhu!) So I wish I really get the time to get back to all of you… I miss this place, my happy, infinite place ;(

Celebrations means…

ALCOHOL! Well, for the sober lots of food. But for us, izz beer!

I am not the biggest beer drinker there is (I know, sucha wuss) but thanks to friends who seem to have a knack for victimizing me for beer bong, I finally acquired the taste for it. My favorite beer would be the apple-flavored one and strong ice variants…

And so, as San Miguel Corporation launched their newest marketing slash corporate social responsibility program (a month ago, actually, oops this is part of the backlog list on steroids) it advocates to promote tourism through featuring local, major and minor, fiestas around the country! Get ready as SMB will be there from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao!

Along with this, they launch a new website too which tells more about this program, and has advanced features when you register. You get to access the BEER LOCATOR, which pretty does what it’s named (#sabaw) and the ITINERARY PLANNER which helps you plan a trip to wherever in the 7,107 islands of the Philippines!

For more information, you may log on to (and do register, too!) at http://smb7107celebrations.com.ph/

We’ll miss you Master Panda!

Last night, my friend and former boss Jen a.k.a. Master Panda of the funky fresh brand Punchdrunk Panda flew for Cambodia to start her life-changing trip of a lifetime, which obviously everyone was envious for, haha. Anyway, so we’re pretty  sure we’re gonna miss our favorite panda, so the Apprentice Panda set up a supposed-to-be-small-turned-feast of a despedida for her!

DSC_0219

Just look at that spread, and it wasn’t even the half of everything! We bought all kinds of vegetarian-friendly foodam and Karlo, the Panda Boyfriend, brought FOUR FREAKING BIG BOXES OF BROOKLYN PIZZA! There’s no way Jen couldn’t have guessed we’re throwing a party for her… we were excited pa naman  to see her cry, teehee!

[There used to be a really pretty picture of Nica haha with that caption below]

Nica was in charge of the food, Karlo with the guests and more food (yay!) and my broke self with the venue (working with Moonleaf has its perks, really!) We hijacked four tables and it wasn’t even enough. So much for a small gathering, hehe. So glad though Jen’s friends had the time to drop by even though it was pouring outside!

Take care always Jen, and always always always remember we will always look  forward to seeing you again when you come back! Bring some panda-wesome (maipilit lang, haha!) stories with you :)

…and some Ceylon tea, please? Just kiddin’ :P
