So I spent the long weekend last month (wow, it was one month already?!) I just came from La Union that weekend and one of the companies I work for, DGNTY, decided to go to Boracay with the whole team. It was crazy because I just came back to Manila that day to catch up with work and meetings, then the next time I knew I was on the plane to the best beach in the country world! Pardon the eyebags that I checked in along with my baggage. They’re heavy, ‘kay? :P
It was my first time to fly with Zest Air and my second time within the country. I have nothing much to compare it with. I just didn’t recall flights being delayed when you’re inside the cabin already, so when that happened, I was really bummed, bored, and worried. It was a seamless flight though. It wouldn’t be my first choice next time, but I was happy to arrive in Kalibo safe and sound.
Meet the gang! I was with the happiest people in the island! The whole team (L-R: Carlos, Julianna, Adrian, Thysz, Bobet, and Jan) was so ready to throw everything at the back of our heads and #RegretBoracay. It’s an #InsideJoke, don’t mind it :)
On our first three days, we stayed at Coco Huts at Station 1… AND. IT. WAS. JUST. THE. BEST! It looks like a cabin (uh, bear with me, my SD card just gave up on me, rest its memories *crey*) and we got the biggest room for a discount. Army Navy is conveniently situated downstairs, with some bars like the Sandbar is just a few sandy walks away. It’s also near Station 2 – to D’Mall and the island’s party scene! Everything is at your reach, so it’s just perfect! They have no wi-fi though, and for seven netizens and whose work relies heavily on the internet, we were kinda in for an involuntary internet sabbatical.
On connection issues, I wasn’t really on a sabbatical,’cause my phone’s on 3G all the way! Thanks to Globe who already strengthened the connectivity on the island with fiber optic technology. Now who said you can’t enjoy without unplugging yourself? Not anymore!
Oh say hi to the very sexy Thysz, my boss, btw hahaha! On our third day, we transferred to Boracay Pito (7) Huts which is a sister hotel company of the former place we stayed at. We needed to transfer because the other two days that we’ll be at Boracay was booked ahead of time at Coco Huts. Anyway, this one’s way further at Station 3, where the scene is much more serene, the party’s sober, and there’s plenty of relaxing to do. I particularly noted the Tree House in this part of the island where lodging and restaurant is propped on a tree! Cool idea and eyeing it actually for my next visit (soon!)
Now what to do in the island? It’s almost Halloween when we got there, so everyone’s crazy about costumes and parties! When I was spending some alone time at Jonah’s, where they serve the best fruit shakes in the island, I was thrilled to see kids and kids at heart in costumes and on the way to their respective parties. There’s a lot of bars to drink at Boracay – we went to Epic, Summer Place, and Juice Bar; each having their own crowds and yes, expensive drinks.
In this island was where I realize I can only tolerate three days of straight partying. On our third day, everyone was crazy for a post-Halloween party (didn’t even know such a thing exists!) I was on lolo mode when I decided to go home alone, grab a chocolate bar, and iPad myself to sleep. Trust me, there’s nothing but the ocean breeze (I kept the veranda doors open) and good ol’ sleep.
And of course, what else to do for this blogger; what with the ocean as a backdrop, and the breeze so cool against your skin? I was really inspired to write. And I guess, there’s one thing I’m forgetting to tell you about. Boracay may be a party hub, but give yourself even a fraction of a day to look into yourself and reflect. The beach is a such a good medium to introspect.
It’s best with beer, some cigs, and the vast ocean mirroring how equally vast the future is.
I’ll be back, Boracay.
P.S. Forgive the lack of pictures in this post, I know it’s a travel post, and you must be demanding some more photos to look at… There’s Google for now, haha! When my SD card magically defibrillated itself back to life, I’ll be back with more photos! Thanks for your patience, hihi :)
