(Spring)-Summer is here!

Well, technically we don’t have Spring in the Philippines. Hence, the parentheses. OC much? Haha!

Anyway. Remember that article, I wrote for altMNL? I’m really glad that two of my favorite indie brands released mats already for their upcoming SS collections. Check them out here —

Salad Day’s back with more candy colors and putting some game to your outfit! Check out the Lisa Punk collection! You can feel the summer in these pieces – with all the color, and not to mention, it really looks comfy to sport. I really like the shorts with the inverted pockets! Thinking to buy…………..

Proud Race is so proud of their dark nature. It’s so dark, it brings light to fashion today! Drawing from the 90’s that inspired them from the very beginning, 1990 Nile is here to put some nine-o-remix to your SS choices. Doesn’t mean it’s summer, you can’t wear black! I particularly liked the symbology print and of course the maxi in everything!

Annnnnnd, these videos are crafted by none other than Judd Figuerres! Really love his work in these brands!

Just a quick post to acknowledge that summer is indeed here… and comes with it is my birth month! Quite excited on the start of my xxth year. Not revealing, hehe! AND IT’S ALREADY HOT OUTSIDE CONSIDERING IT ‘S JUST FEBRUARY. Weather is cray.

Anyway. Among the other things I am starting new with is a new platform for my blabs… Hope yer not too tired yet to hear out what I have to say. Watch out for my new blog —! See you there soon!

Jean Paul Gaultier’s Runway

Yesterday, I was fashion show-hopping in the interwebz and basking myself to the latest in menswear on the Paris and Milan runways. One particular runway really caught my attention, and that’s because models didn’t walk it. Couldn’t call it a runway either. Instead, designer Jean Paul Gaultier had the models strip and revealed his clothes piece by piece. It’s a new method of presenting clothes, the deconstruction way. (at least I still hadn’t done research if this has been done before) It’s sensual, but not too skanky. It’s not an underwear show (much to the disappointment of some others, heh) but it made me feel  like watching a Victoria’s Secret show without the skin.

PLUS, the pieces are good, but you will have to wait for my Paris/Milan menswear review for that :)

Keep tuned in!

Wear Pinoy!

We at altMNL don’t believe in boring fashion statements. Most importantly, we don’t believe that you need to look outside Manila to get the latest in fashion. Here are 10 all-Pinoy brands which can up your ante.

Strut pieces from these brands and let’s show the world how Pinoy fashion is forward!

Read more after the jump!

And this is maybe my proudest article for altMNL so far. Featuring some of my favorite Pinoy brands… It really puts a smile in my face doing this article for them and the whole Pinoy fashion and design industry.

Always remember: wear your own,

The Ultimate Punchdrunk Panda Blogger Hangout!

This will be the fourth blogger hangout that I will be with Punchdrunk Panda, and I am just so happy they keep on inviting me (hehe!) And this time around, it’s the biggest one there is in the history of funkifying the world with quirky cool stuff!

It was held at the new Pino – Pipino restaurant and bar at Jupiter street in Makati. Hands down for this group for always making the best grub in town! The last time in Pipino at Malingap street in Teacher’s Village was amazing. And so is this one. ONE PROOF: I have no photos of the food (hehe and sorry!)  because each time the food comes in, it magically finds it way to our mouths. TRUE STORY. This is why we are not dedicated food bloggers, haha!

Anyway, on its fourth wave of blogger hangouts already, Punchdrunk Panda (also, PdP) introduced its new batch of skimmers and camera straps! If you’re still not familiar with PdP, you’re in for some quirky and cool fun!

Nov 7, 2012, 3:47 PMManix Abrera

Light Years

First up, Manix Abrera (of the Kikomachine Komix fame!) designed a pair of guys’ skimmers, and camera straps (another favorite from PdP!) I really like how it became an extension of his work from the graphic novel world and a fan would instantly buy it. After the whole hangout, everyone was busy buying their own Shutterbug camera straps and had it signed by Manix himself!

Nov 7, 2012, 3:49 PMDiego Mapa

Intergalactic Duet with Dan Matutina

Diego Mapa of two-man band Tarsius, one of our artists from Anteroom Sessions 1 and 2, together with graphic designer Dan Matutina, designed this galactic pair of skimmers. What’s unique with this pair is that with its postcard (each product comes with a postcard with a message from the artist) is a QR code of Diego Mapa’s original soundtrack for Graphika Manila! It’s an intense intergalactic medley of art!

Nov 7, 2012, 3:52 PMNemo Aguila

Nemo Aguila‘s character designs are to die for! It kinda reminds me of some PdP products with monsters – yepp, you’re right Rob Cham’s Monsters – but now in a different dimension and apparently adaptation of Nemo’s name! Cool work, bruh!

Nov 7, 2012, 3:53 PMJen “Master Panda” Horn

Stamp Collector

Jen Horn‘s love for travel have successfully transcended into her designs and et voila, the Stamp Collector is a mirage of travel visa stamps! It’s my frustration to travel more frequently, and buying this maybe will psyche its way into my life. I don’t know but you, but isn’t that how the law of attraction works?

Nov 7, 2012, 3:59 PMAlessandra Lanot

Eat Your Vegetables

Alessandra Lanot, or fondly Alessa of Pipino, is a vegan. YES, folks, a real one! I didn’t think vegans exist too, until I met her! I have nothing against vegetables, in fact I love them, but you cannot deprive me of my meat (sorry, Alessa!) So Alessa’s work is demanding you to eat your vegetables instead! Haha mai-connect lang, labo! Featured in this artwork is NOT only Alessa’s love for vegetables, but also her watercolor skills that kill! You didn’t even notice it’s watercolor, yes?

Some of the artists from this collection were not able to join us, so here are their works of funkifying art!

Splash by Lady Krystle Tanmantiong & Anna Oposa

Save the Philippine Seas-inspired, definitely! This artwork definitely shows us how beautiful the sea is even in a small canvas like a shoe. Wear it and be a proud planeteer!

Bob-eye the Referee by Apol Sta. Maria

Another playful artwork in a pair of skimmers? It’s just so PdP I love it! I love how collaborations show the different facets of a brand through different artists as well!

Geoglyphs by Nathania Gail Go

We’d love to see Gail here, but she’s funkifying the other end of the world. But yay for her work which I think means “art on stone.” It’s a naturally occurring formation on rocks! Cool new information, huh? And oh, love the contrasting colors!

I love blogger hangouts! It’s simple and intimate and ultimately I get to know the brand and other bloggers as well. It’s fun to see familiar faces too from our previous blogger hangouts :)

Pino’s signature wall art is very tempting for camwhoring. Or we’re just camwhores I think. Say hi to Margarita Queen Tin Rementilla with me on the photo! Di po kami nag-usap sa outfit haha

Where the boys at? Near me. Hehe. Say hi to Paul the PR Guy and Seph Cham of Love Chic.

Look how big the PdP family already is *tears!* Really thankful to be part of this team and group of bloggers! Much love from moi!

It’s not racist, it’s Black Friday x Margiela rocks H&M!

But before I even spazz about the biggest shopping holiday in the US, let me introduce you to what you may have known for the past few weeks already. It’s the biggest collaboration everyone has been talking about from the moment it was announced. I don’t even know if I should name it, but what the hell. I’m too happy and perky, haha!

MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA x H&M. These are some of the standouts:

Ayala Style Origin: Mensweek @ Market! Market!

Jake Cuenca is the face of Mensweek for its The Fort leg. Previous celebrities who represented Mensweek were Enchong Dee and Joseph Marco.

Jerome Salaya-Ang

Mixed and varying textures is the strength of Ang’s collection for men, which is very in sync with its female counterpart.

Matching prints on hoodies and socks *check!*

Gold and black plays a big role in the color scheme in this collection. Pretty reminds us of Alexander McQueen in late 2010 and 2011.

This leggings with cutout O____O is just so phenomenal. I need ’em but I still don’t know if I can pull it off. Heh.

Nixon Marquez

As with Nixon’s Philippine Fashion Week collection, and as with his other collections, the strength of his clothes will be in the unique cuts and silhouettes it creates with the body.

…and 90’s grunge and rock and roll! \m/

I love this hoodie!

Pajamic cotton pants – buy this early for the sweaty summer season. It’s a welcome alternative to denim, at least.

Noel Crisostomo

Noel Crisostomo being put in the third and last slot was refreshing. His style varied immensely from the first two designers, but that doesn’t mean he’s lesser talented. Clean cuts and boxy geometric silhouettes are his strength in this collection. Also, attention to detail – be sure to catch the snakeskin lining in some of his pieces.

This leather boxy top!

The collection feels like a summer in the Philippine Hamptons – wherever that is, haha!

This waistcoat is love!

Congratulations to Jerome, Nixon, and Noel for the very successful show; and to Ayala for a very successful run of the Mensweek, the very first Men’s Fashion Week in the Philippines!

PhFW Holiday ’12: Michael Cinco & Rajo Laurel for Bench

Michael Cinco: Impalpable

DSC_1011Reminds me of a French park in some french movie set in the 1920’s

This season Bench went away from their usual fashion shows and decided to give us a show. Introducing the new celebrity-designer perfume line, dubbed as Impalpable by world-renown Filipino designer Michael Cinco. Bench and Cinco did not just put up a perfume launch, they also brought Cinco’s prized bridal gowns and America’s Next Top Models Dominique and Allison. SMX was in an uproar!

And then ANTM’s Allison Harvard happened. ALL. HEARTS. STOPPED.

DSC_1031And some boysssssssssssss. LOVEEEEEET!

Rajo Laurel: Rajo Revolution

Meanwhile, at the room next to Cinco’s jaw-dropping (figure out what made my jaw drop, it wasn’t so hard to see :P) show, was Rajo’s energetic take on launching yet another celebrity-designer perfume line called Rajo Uno and Rajo Dos. There were dance numbers, rockeoke, cheerdance face-off, and the celebs just went out to spend time with their fans. Enchong Dee was a crowd favorite… but it was also Rajo Laurel’s birthday celebration!

DSC_1055More boys! Hahahahaha.

Congratulations and thanks to Bench for inviting me to their Fashion Week show! It was truly one of a kind, kudos!

UP NEXT: What happens after every PhFW show… hehehe

Ready To Wear Collection

Dave Ocampo

[Emi Englis is a part of this collection, but I cannot find my photos of his clothes. I apologize for this.]

Harley Ruedas

11Print on denim? WHY NOT?

Jian Lasala

12One of my favorites from the whole show. Minimally well thought of ideas of design are really orgasmic for me.

John Guarnes

Mike Lavarez

14Another favorite designer which really showed a different collection this season. It may be simple in one look but look carefully for Mike’s attention to detail

Nixon Marquez

15Nixon’s 90’s carefree attitude and style in his clothes are very evident. I love the looseness and the monochrome in this collection.

Congratulations to all the designers who put so much love and effort for this show! It was great to see Filipinos really have talent – in whichever field they choose!

PhFW Holiday ’12: Oxygen

Every season, I always look forward to Oxygen’s PhFW show and I see to it that I never miss the fun – which is always epic so many levels, from the runway to the after party! This year, Oxygen takes another twist by being color forward. I haven’t seen Oxygen like this before, what with their fresh new take with the preppy-clean style. Though I’d really prefer their androgynous direction, this is something new for them and they’re good at it!

2I love the cut of their jeans! It’s the only perfect fit (well, that’s for me)

4Polka-dots are returning this holiday season! Check Oxygen’s polka-dot shirts!

6I’m loving their jackets and blazers!

10Cardigans for the holidays – classic!

11How do you love painting the town red, huh?

17And I’m really glad Oxygen did not forget about their monochrome-loving friends – loving these black and white ensembles

Proud Race print tee, Thrifted cover up, M+P+E drop crotch pants, Thrifted military boots

This is an ode to the Oxygen style! Always fresh, always forward! See you again next season, Oxygen!

Or yeah, in your store. Shopping mode: ON!
