Boracay Long Weekend!

Oct 30, 2012, 6:07 AM

So I spent the long weekend last month (wow, it was one month already?!) I just came from La Union that weekend and one of the companies I work for, DGNTY, decided to go to Boracay with the whole team. It was crazy because I just came back to Manila that day to catch up with work and meetings, then the next time I knew I was on the plane to the best beach in the country world! Pardon the eyebags that I checked in along with my baggage. They’re heavy, ‘kay? :P

It was my first time to fly with Zest Air and my second time within the country. I have nothing much to compare it with. I just didn’t recall flights being delayed when you’re inside the cabin already, so when that happened, I was really bummed, bored, and worried. It was a seamless flight though. It wouldn’t be my first choice next time, but I was happy to arrive in Kalibo safe and sound.

Meet the gang! I was with the happiest people in the island! The whole team (L-R: Carlos, Julianna, Adrian, Thysz, Bobet, and Jan) was so ready to throw everything at the back of our heads and #RegretBoracay. It’s an #InsideJoke, don’t mind it :)

Nov 1, 2012, 1:08 PM

On our first three days, we stayed at Coco Huts at Station 1… AND. IT. WAS. JUST. THE. BEST! It looks like a cabin (uh, bear with me, my SD card just gave up on me, rest its memories *crey*) and we got the biggest room for a discount. Army Navy is conveniently situated downstairs, with some bars like the Sandbar is just a few sandy walks away. It’s also near Station 2 – to D’Mall and the island’s party scene! Everything is at your reach, so it’s just perfect! They have no wi-fi though, and for seven netizens and whose work relies heavily on the internet, we were kinda in for an involuntary internet sabbatical.

On connection issues, I wasn’t really on a sabbatical,’cause my phone’s on 3G all the way! Thanks to Globe who already strengthened the connectivity on the island with fiber optic technology. Now who said you can’t enjoy without unplugging yourself? Not anymore!

Oh say hi to the very sexy Thysz, my boss, btw hahaha! On our third day, we transferred to Boracay Pito (7) Huts which is a sister hotel company of the former place we stayed at. We needed to transfer because the other two days that we’ll be at Boracay was booked ahead of time at Coco Huts. Anyway, this one’s way further at Station 3, where the scene is much more serene, the party’s sober, and there’s plenty of relaxing to do. I particularly noted the Tree House in this part of the island where lodging and restaurant is propped on a tree! Cool idea and eyeing it actually for my next visit (soon!)

Oct 31, 2012, 6:58 PM

Now what to do in the island? It’s almost Halloween when we got there, so everyone’s crazy about costumes and parties! When I was spending some alone time at Jonah’s, where they serve the best fruit shakes in the island, I was thrilled to see kids and kids at heart in costumes and on the way to their respective parties. There’s a lot of bars to drink at Boracay – we went to Epic, Summer Place, and Juice Bar; each having their own crowds and yes, expensive drinks.

Nov 2, 2012, 11:00 PM

In this island was where I realize I can only tolerate three days of straight partying. On our third day, everyone was crazy for a post-Halloween party (didn’t even know such a thing exists!) I was on lolo mode when I decided to go home alone, grab a chocolate bar, and iPad myself to sleep. Trust me, there’s nothing but the ocean breeze (I kept the veranda doors open) and good ol’ sleep.

Nov 1, 2012, 4:25 PM

And of course, what else to do for this blogger; what with the ocean as a backdrop, and the breeze so cool against your skin? I was really inspired to write. And I guess, there’s one thing I’m forgetting to tell you about. Boracay may be a party hub, but give yourself even a fraction of a day to look into yourself and reflect. The beach is a such a good medium to introspect.

It’s best with beer, some cigs, and the vast ocean mirroring how equally vast the future is.

I’ll be back, Boracay.

P.S. Forgive the lack of pictures in this post, I know it’s a travel post, and you must be demanding some more photos to look at… There’s Google for now, haha! When my SD card magically defibrillated itself back to life, I’ll be back with more photos! Thanks for your patience, hihi :)

Moonleaf presents: UAAP Cheerdance Competition

It’s yet another season of UAAP, and for those who care less about basketball (sorry, junkies) there’s the Cheerdance Competition. Probably, if not the second, the most anticipated event in UAAP. And I’m not kidding. From where I graduated, I heard, the pep squad is the most pampered and most spent on team!

Sep 20, 2012, 6:50 PM

And we at Moonleaf were more than happy to host a CDC screening. Now on its second year to host, we always love seeing school spirit!

Sep 22, 2012, 2:35 PM

Our friends, Travis and Cai among many others, came to watch (and cheer their lungs out) with us! Can you tell who they were rooting for from their outfit?

I was actually third wheeling this sweet couple hehe. Cai rooted for UP, Travis for DLSU, and of course, I rooted for FEU! Let’s go Tamaraws!

There’s plenty of goofing around, too. Not captured in photos, though! Everybody was loopy and happy not until the announcement of winners. When the champion was announced, which was UP for the 8th time now, EVERYBODY, and I mean everybody, like the shop was like quaking in full joy! This is Maginhawa branch we are talking about! Balwarte levels!

Sep 23, 2012, 3:57 AM

And after hosting the event, we were all hungry and shit so… Mercato ensued. I had isaw, Laoag empanada, and the most heavenly aligue-laden three-cheese Risotto balls. I. HAZ. TO. GO. BACK. FOR. THAT.

Looking for a pre-loved iPad 2

I think I owe it to my never being home, being always on the go, being layas most of the time… and finally my very mobile job as a community manager that makes me really want the iPad. I just think it’s the nomad’s perfect device weapon of choice. Not too heavy as a laptop, but not as small and (sometimes) slow as a phone. Although that really depends on the app you use.

It’s also a part of this year’s resolution goalsWalang biro at bola, that I really think and strongly believe that the iPad will revolutionize my life. WOW. Ms. Universe answer. Yes, I know. Revolutionize is the word! I promise to discuss this in a very geeky reasonable way plus apps that I am dying to have and use!

But I don’t really need the new or even a brand new iPad. If it’s still working and battery does not die on an instagram, I’m willing to buy a pre-loved gadget. Come to think of it, most of my gadgets and phones are pre-loved. I am not really a fan of brand new stuff, especially to gadgets. Others’ trash is my treasure indeed!

So just for now, I am this nomad, geek, and thrift freak who wants needs an iPad for his very mobile life and work. So if you (of your friend for that matter) are selling your iPad 2, preferably white (choosy pa eh noh) doesn’t matter how big is the memory, and selling for below PhP 15,000, I’m in for it and I wanna buy it, provided it still is in good condition (sana may warranty din, hihi)

Or if you wanna donate it to humankind that is me, JUST. GO. GIVE. IT. TO. ME. Hello, sponsors. Hihi :)

Anyway, if you wanna help me, please comment below, or email me at jonverdavid[at]gmail[dot]com if you have any offers.

Thanksies sissies!

Boracay in Maginhawa!

DSC_0327

It was a sunny summer afternoon in Maginhawa. And a certain tea shop that goes by the name of Moonleaf held the summer party that ended all summer parties this year. Milk tea + bands + free photo booth and henna + TWO new tea flavors? What more can you ask for? OH YEAH — summer rain and dancing in it like nobody cares!

These are the behind-the-scenes of the shoot I did with Probe last week. We were to reenact the accounts of Wachi participation in the war with Japan during World War II. It wasn’t a role I was really gunning for, for all you know I’d better be behind the camera. But I didn’t pass for the opportunity (maybe the last one I’ll get) to act in front of a camera.

I can’t hide though that I enjoyed watching the production set up instead of acting. Haha! Anyway, again I want to thank Probe for this experience and for the wonderful stay at BAE (pictures after the jump)!

These are just some of the behind-the-scenes of our shoot for The Moonleaf Summer 2012 Campaign shot by Joseph Pascual and filmed by Judd Figuerres. The locations were Maginhawa street and the vast grassy area that is the University of the Philippines – Diliman. I had the honor to tag along and experience working with these amazing people… oh just look how much fun we are having.

IMMAP Open Mic Night at Salon de Ning

I can still remember how fun the first IMMAP Open Mic Night is, and how I was very inspired as a guy who works in the social media industry; when all of a sudden, in a matter of months, here came the second round of industry stalwarts ready to inspire us all over again.

DSC_1035

DSC_0972

It was my first time at the Salon de Ning, and I must say that the photos do not do justice to how stunning it looks like. If it’s a woman, I’d describe her in a long black sequined gown. I can’t help to notice how this place shines!

People from social media, blogging, advertising, government, design, and marketing among others attended the well-anticipated event hosted by none other than the Internet and Mobile Marketing Association of the Philippines or IMMAP. By now, I can already tell that IMMAP throws party like no other. With just the right touch of geekery and fun, I always expect to learn something new and get a little tipsy what with the overflowing booze!

The last one was Pecha Kucha, and now they take the form of a fishbowl format. You have to choose from #It’sMoreFunInThePhilippines, #WhatRocksYourSocks, or #Bawal. And one member of the audience can participate in the lineup of five speakers. You know me well enough if you know I joined #Bawal. Haha! I wasn’t chosen to be part of the lineup, but that’s good as well. I was tipsy (but comprehensible) before the talks even began

Speakers in #Bawal talked about plenty of stuff. But what I can summarize from that is that each of us have our own concept of what is wrong or prohibited. Truly, everything is subject in to discourse, and whatever bad is to me, may be not to another.

There were a lot of prizes given out to the audience. I wish I won the iPad from the raffle, hahaha, but I guess we haven’t shouted enough to the universe (Nica and I were actually shouting iPad the whole night, lol) but great for Thysz who won a bottle of Casa Noble Tequila for best dressed from her all-black number. Have I mentioned also that she’s in Young Star last week to represent Moonleaf Tea Shop? That’s my pretty boss!!! :)

DSC_0970

I cannot tell you more how nice this event is — I learned, met old and new friends, and had time to party with people who pretty much tweet for a living as I do (community managers, represent!!!) It’s time to engage people offline though that’s pretty much a joke, as most of us were in Twitter for most of the time, haha!

I am so looking forward to the third Open Mic Night!

Moonleaf: My Summer Staycation 2012

Come to think of it, staycation isn’t a bad idea at all. Though I’d really love to be in the islands by now because of this heat staring down at us, the city isn’t that unbearable with my favorite milk tea in hand.

See you all at Moonleaf!

If life has been any simpler than a twisted game of Monopoly Deal, I probably would have won with a deal breaker and a sly deal in hand. But it ain’t a friggin’ game, and I may need my daily does of milk tea to calm my all too frantic self.

Hello Tuesday!
