These are just some of the behind-the-scenes of our shoot for The Moonleaf Summer 2012 Campaign shot by Joseph Pascual and filmed by Judd Figuerres. The locations were Maginhawa street and the vast grassy area that is the University of the Philippines – Diliman. I had the honor to tag along and experience working with these amazing people… oh just look how much fun we are having.

Around UP Teacher’s Village

One of the perks of working at Teacher’s Village is that friends come and go all the time. It’s so near the university that it instantly becomes the third place after school/work and home. For some, it is their home, workplace, and hang out place in one! You cannot run out of places to eat/drink/hang at because it’s just bustling with all these potential places. I wish I could try them all!

DSC_0792

DSC_0807

Hop in a car, ride a cab, or even just walk – and you can just reach the nearby UP, which is a sight in its own. I’ve seen many a photo shoot happened here, and who could even know a grass land this vast can be found in the middle of the city? It’s perfect for picnics, too! Whatever floats your boat!

I always believe that whenever the clouds look pretty, the day’s gonna be awesome. That day I shot these, it knew it was awesome already, and the clouds couldn’t agree more with me.

And the day ISN’T over. After work, I met up with some more friends and rewarded myself with burger and booze at the newly renovated Burger Project. My blogger friends were there already, and I showed up and crashed. They were supposed to invite me, really but I still have work by the time they get there.

We moved to Pino to grab some more booze and pica. I love it there, it’s so bright and they have my favorite Lychee Beer. Perfect for capping the day off.

UP Pep Squad’s ELEV80’s is a spin off of the normal thanksgiving concert of one of the best and leading cheerdance crew in the country! But this year, they give tribute to the wonderful decade that is the 80’s! I hate to admit it but I almost knew every song that  they danced to. How can’t I – my parents used them as lullabies when I was little, and I cannot deny that I ain’t an 80’s baby indeed! I was really happy, with a tinge of shame, to sing along to a lot of songs, haha!

Congratulations to the UP Pep Squad for a very successful show! Also, thank you for our good seats! It was a great show indeed!

Yes, now I remembered that I forgot to take a photo of him. Anyway, it was a chill fun night, and looking forward to nights like this.

For the record, that week, I ate squidballs everyday. Idk with myself.

MOV Festival

The 4th .MOV International Film, Music, & Literature Festival will run from September 1 to 6, 2011. This year, .MOV Fest will be taking upon its shoulders the world premiere of the films by directors championed by Alexis Tioseco and Nika Bohinc, such as Lav Diaz, John Torres, Raya Martin, Sherad Anthony Sanchez, and more. It will also include cinematic treats from around Southeast Asia and World Cinema. And, because the 4th .MOV Fest will also be celebrating music and literature, expect activities that feature the best Philippine songwriters and literary figures. This makes .MOV Fest the first ever local festival that will combine all three in one event.

Another thing to look forward to this year’s festival is the staple Silvershorts competition, wherein aspiring filmmakers are encouraged to submit their short films. Previous Silvershorts directors such as Ato Bautista, Quark Henares, Chris Martinez have gone on to become full-fledged, recognized directors both here and abroad. This year’s Jury panel will include Chris Fujiwara (USA/Japan), Kong Rithdee (Thailand), Vanja Kaludjercic (Croatia/France).

The 4th .MOV International Film, Music, & Literature Festival is dedicated to the memory of film critics Alexis Tioseco and Nika Bohinc. The festival will take place in several venues – The Podium Cinemas, Greenbelt 3, Ayala Museum, Fully Booked High Street and Cine Adarna in UP Diliman.

Overheard at Ateneo: Konyo and Proud

By Miguel Antonio N. Lizada, Photos by Arvin Lim

So, there we were again.

Our kapitbahay once more were our kalaban for just one afternoon. Pero you know, you can see naman that there’s respeto. Like halimbawa, except for that unsportsmanlike foul done by that UP player on Nico Salva, the players were so magalang to each other. They were helping each other up whenever they would get accidentally knocked down. That’s so mabait of them. Right? People on both sides were also cheering the UP Pep Squad as they made their very interesting and unique half time performance. Friends tayo, diba?

The game was quite exciting sa simula. There were times na they were catching up on us which for me was quite good for the UP team. I mean diba kahit paano, we should be happy for them that they’re somewhat getting their act together. Diba?  So anyway, once Norman Black sent in the big guns, things became more and more favorable for us. I started relaxing. I was able to eat my sandwich and make inom my iced tea with comfort and ease.

And about the fans. There were a couple of neat banners that were being waved by the fans. One read: “We believe in Kirk Long’s Power.” Ikaw na, Kirk. Ikaw na ang may Power. And I’m sure the power comes from your new haircut. Sa head.

But aside from that, we were quite konti, ha? I mean compared to big games. The Upper B seats were not filled. But the good thing about it was, the Blue Babble Battalion members had more chikka time with the gallery. Leaders, cheerdancers and lifters were seen not just in the Upper boxes but they even made baba to the Lower Box and Patron seats to encourage the more mayaman and sikat fans to cheer for the team. Fans were still cheering all the way pa rin naman. May mga Blue Babble members na nagwawala pa rin even though ang laki na ng lead.

And speaking of Babble cheerleaders na nagwawala, there was this particular cheerleader who was so into the tense mood of the half-time show that when he finished the Blue Eagle Spelling routine (by jumping), natanggalan siya ng sapatos. So yun, after bowing to the cheering gallery, he was making his angas power walk, his right arm cheering “Go Ateneo” with the crowd and his left hand holding his shoe. That’s passion. That’s giving it your all. The spirit of St. Ignatius is with you, hijo! Happy Feast Day!

This Thursday, we do battle with the University of Santo Tomas. I think I want to make a banner “Pass the Reproductive Health Bill.” For now, I will conclude this write-up on this convincing victory by saying “Konyo and Proud.”

Made me roll over in laughter. Don’t know actually if this is any different from that blog I read one day that gave me one heck of a migraine (read: wrong grammar, wrong punctuation, off topics, and on top of all that – a self-aggrandizing sidebar!) Well this one’s better, haha.

I think this one’s for the good laughs! A little hinay-hinay on the konyo though (ansabeeeee?!)

Two cents: Christopher Lao

Just so because I’m super tired from work and stuff last night that I didn’t post this one. And I swear not to take advantage of any trending topics just so I can talk about something in my blog. But alas, CHRISTOPHER LAO is zeh bomb!!! Too juicy (yes, PUN intended) to resist. I can’t even organize my thoughts, so here goes my two cents about him, in bullet points.

  • When I saw the car float, hindi ako kay Lao naawa. I immediately thought of the car. WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?!
  • Is his car automatic, or manual? Pray God it works after.
  • GEE, what man-boobs you have?! Teehee! I think this is second as to why he trended in the Social Media. Too funneh!
  • The video looks normal to me, just like any rant whore interviewed on TV.
  • But then again, ATTORNEY-IN-THE-MAKING pala si Lao. Take that for being “not informed.” Duh, Attorney di po ba halata? BAHA!!!! You only need half a pea-brain to realize that.
  • Again, I don’t get why people love giving unsolicited advice.
  • I posted this, because I actually think it’s funny. Stupid, yes. (Again, kawawa naman yung car!)
  • You shouldn’t be warned of flood – Attorney, you have four eyes to look at it.
  • Check out this Facebook page in honor of his, ehrm, “stupidity” which is by the way growing in fans by the second.

As if the video isn’t enough. FAN PHOTOS AHEAD. You have been warned.

At the end of all this, I believe Mr. Lao is not at all stupid. He made it into law school, for chrissakes. I agree though, with most of the comments (not unsolicited advice,) that his DIVA behavior got him into this. I don’t know what’s in his mind.

Look on the bright side, when people actually get tired of mocking you, at least the whole world knows you are Christopher Lao. Just not sure if it will help your lawyer plans, but hey you’re fucking popular!!!

EDIT: Christopher Lao graduated summa cum laude from UP, with the degree BA Philo. USC Vice Chair 05-06. Goddamn smart!!! (You can imagine how many expletives I am spurring right now, knowing this.)
