You call that a guide?

We ordered the Beef Pepper Steak with Mashed Potato (P280) in Hiyas Bar. The meat was yucky and rubbery — I don’t even want to ask where they source their beef. – Puerto Galera’s White Beach Guide 2012: Where to Stay and What to Eat, Our Awesome Planet

This is just an excerpt about OAP’s guide to White Beach in Puerto Galera that I was reading in preparation to my trip tomorrow. I encourage you to click that link and read it. And do not read after this paragraph until you’ve done so. I want you to have a clear cut view of why I have given a comment like what you will read after this.

As lifted from my original comment in the post: Why do I feel like you didn’t do your research well and besides have featured the so-so part of Puerto Galera? There are more stories that I have read… especially on the places to stay at, and eat at. This isn’t helping our local tourism. I hope you avoid using the words “it’s better if you lowered your expectation” because really what are you trying to achieve in this kind of blogging?

Are you proving that you are far more superior than that of you consumed? Then why didn’t you check in the best places in Galera (excuse me, gaylera may have been existent but you should’ve known that this is so derogative.) I guess you know TripAdvisor and even friends may have recommended a good place.

I am sorry, but I may be mad but I just think that you could’ve done better and may have seen the beauty in Galera if it weren’t for your own choices.

I am in no way to dictate anyone’s blogging. But I plead to all bloggers to choose your words. And do your research!

Please correct me if I have wronged him in this comment, because clearly if I put myself on a Galeran’s shoes, I’d be offended. Especially with the use of Gaylera reference which I deem derogatory. And also, the rampant backlash on the local bars and pubs – I mean, what is he trying to prove? Research in his part could’ve given him a better experience, but it was his own choices that led him into having what he had.

This could’ve been blogged in a helpful way. Words could’ve been chosen wisely.

Blog responsibly everyone!

Get Sole Blogger Launch

Goy invited to the blogger’s launch of Get Sole shoes. I love how these blogger launches are getting informal and more intimate. Now it’s in the newly opened Chatime branch in Eton Centris. Talk about more events happening in the North!

DSC_0144I love them basics!

DSC_0146The insole gets me interested.

DSC_0159The David Guison (sorry, Dave, I love putting The, haha!) He’s the other brand ambassador aside from Kelly.

DSC_0162Best-dressed Miko and Catch! Kayo na!

DSC_0169We walked around Eton Centris Walk after the event. I love how modern-looking the place is. Some more restaurants and shops, and it should be happening soon!

DSC_0179HOY PAX! Haha! We were goofing around with Paul the PR Guy. He’s cute noh? Pax is already all clingy on him, LOLJK!

Thanks to Paul for this photo. I look mad and like I won in Battle Royale, haha!

Oxygen x Marcela Gutierrez graphic tee, Folded and Hung denim pants and cardigan (as cape), Thrifted military boots

I cannot not say that my inspiration for this outfit is my androgynously dressed friends! LOL, kidding aside, I just came up with this look ’cause it suddenly rained and it was cold outside so I had to cover up. But it got a little hot after (damn you, climate change!) and I don’t want to put my cardigan on the bag, so I thought I’d use it as a cape. Witty or wit?

Back to Get Sole! You can get these in your favorite American Boulevard shops! I’m thinking of getting the brown one for everyday officewear (yeah we’re cool like that in our office :P)

Hunger Games AGAIN

So hi there again! This day couldn’t get any lazier… It’s the longest I’ve been home since I got a job again back in January. And I was just blog-hopping and checking tweets, and oh, changed my Facebook profile picture. But that doesn’t interest you, and most importantly, is not connected to my blog post title. Sheesh, forgive the three year-old in me.

Anyhoo, I’ve watched The Hunger Games again before the holiday, and I still couldn’t pull out a decent movie review out of my brain. Remember that I haven’t seen anything that I haven’t seen before? Yeah count this one in. I know there are plenty other films to watch, but I just couldn’t pass up with watching a fellow fan and shrieking like a girl and like nobody cared.

DSC_0426Aaron Yeo visited Angel for her birthday! How sweet of this guy!

DSC_0429This is new to us. When did SM start using this for movies?

DSC_0431Hello everyone, meet the birthday girl! I love Angel‘s new hair!!

DSC_0433These Apple flats from Manels are genius!

We had dinner at the newly renovated Yabu. It was bigger, but it still is crowded. Maybe they should get a bigger place of their own, and not just in a mall #justsayin. Anyway, the food is still how I liked it the first time I was there. I ordered the Rosu (instead of my favorite Kurobota.) The meat was still succulent, thanks to the all-encompassing presence of fat in the meat. I shall try the Hire some other time, or even the Chicken and Seafood katsu. But for now, I’m having and am happy with my pork, yes, thank you.

I couldn’t emphasize how I LOVE the cabbage salad. I almost asked the waitress to omit the rice from my order, but my bill would be the same, so I had rice. Next time though I wouldn’t have the rice. Cabbage and Katsu is heaven and it should stay as is. (Blogging this on a Good Friday does not help, I’m hungry and there are no places to eat at but home.)

About that Hunger Games date. What can I say? Aaron hasn’t watched it yet, and Angel and I were going for round two. AND. I. STILL. CAN’T. BELIEVE. HOW. GOOD. IT. IS!!!! I mean, bashers can bash all they want, book purists can just stay with their books and force an imaginary filmed one in their minds, but yes I’ll take this film with ME as good excellent! I’d like to blab all I’ve said to everybody I talked with this, but I’m saving it for a legit movie review (if I ever come with a decent one, lol)

And of course, give me the benefit of gayness. Josh Hutcherson‘s Peeta IS an eyecandy, and has the perfect underdog puppy eyes look to this wildly feminine series. And also, who could forget Alexander Ludwig’s Cato?! SERIOUSLY, how and when did he get that sizzling hot? That may have to answer to the basher’s casting fail, less pedophilia in District 2 is really a high-numbered incident! Of course, I’m joking. Die, bashers. No, really. Peace and love everyone! :P

Folded and Hung basic v-neck tee, Levi’s distressed denim pants, Thrifted Rolling Stones hooded jacket, Reebok high cut kicks

Thanks to Aaron for the photo!

I semi-want and not want to explain my outfit. This is my guilty outfit, where I just throw a random set of clothes (well mostly monochromatic,) wear jacket, and wear rubber shoes. Haha! These are the days when I just want to be comfy and not care. But, who knew, it actually worked. And I thought also that this is my Hunger Games look. Haha, with the pants smeared with jizz mud. I wish I wore boots though for more THG.

ANYWAY, before I forget. Happy, happy birthday again to the only one blogging wonder woman that is Angeline! It was really fun hanging with you, spending the last few hours before all closes down for the break. Hope you really had a good one. I hope I can join you girls in Titanic 3D this Wednesday… we’ll be shrieking trying-not-to-shriek girls again. Or maybe another round of Hunger Games. Hahahahaha!

P.S. Seriously, if anyone would ask me to watch with him/her The Hunger Games again, I’d definitely say YES without any doubt.

ANTEROOM SESSIONS 2: Double the fun!

MARCH 31 — Exactly six months and 28 days ago, we held the very first Anteroom Sessions at Moonleaf Maginhawa. I was an intern at Punchdrunk Panda then, and we just wanted to launch some new kicks, with a couple of bands playing, while still making sales. It was just a simple, very simple, musing. Until after some meetings, we decided to take on five bands, a couple of DJs, six brands, and a video production team on board. To cut the story short, we were overwhelmed with the outcome of what we were able to come up with then. Up until now, I still feel kilig whenever I look back at the very first Anteroom Sessions. It was the highlight of my internship, and I can say with all confidence that it was my biggest project for PdP. (Sorry for the emotive tone, I can get very emotional with this, hehe)

AND NOW IT HAS GONE OUT OF PROPORTIONS! A month before I was surprised to know that the second Anteroom Sessions will be held at CUBAO X! It shocked me and it instantly brought me back to my internship days where I first envisioned PdP at — exactly at the SAME SPOT as I saw them last night. It was surreal, and PdP didn’t disappoint.

DSC_0188Last year’s crowd favorite Tarsius opened the night! I haven’t heard them with drum sets, and it was a whole different Tarsius last night!

This year, I really felt where Anteroom Sessions came from!!! Seven bands, two DJs, thirteen proudly Filipino brands, and a whole lot of FUN awaited people – indeed MORE FUN WITH PUNCHDRUNK PANDA! I think I’ll shut my mouth a bit, and let these photos speak for itself *giddy*

DSC_0195Dinner at Penpen’s

DSC_0200Gentle Universe were very gentle… lovely tunes!!! We were able to listen to their last set only because we were dinner-ing.

DSC_0204Last year, Slow Hello was only composed by Selena herself. Now she’s with her complete band set!

Also, Selena was celebrating her birthday last night! Happy birthday again, S!

Aside from the awesome, awesome lineup, 13 brands also participated and sold their proudly Filipino products! One of Punchdrunk Panda’s PdP-losophy is to, in any way possible, be proud of their Filipino roots – and here’s adhering to that value.

DSC_0210Mental note to get this from YUKI!

DSC_0215Agos. They invited us to their Baler surfing event, but Hanna and I have other plans already :( NEXT TIME!

DSC_0222Saab‘s Ukay Alalay for the benefit of Francis Magalona Foundation was also there.

DSC_0223What tripled my excitement for Anteroom Sessions is that SOPHIE’S MOM were also there!!! Perfect with Hakka milk tea from Moonleaf Tea Shop!

You bet there were a lot of goofing around last night! Pate, Hanna, Erika and I were playing with my Paradigm Shift noose neckpiece, taking pictures of them pulling it. THEN SUDDENLY A CRAZY THOUGHT. I took pictures with everyone doing it!!! It was so much fun!!!

DSC_0311AND FINALLY TECHY ROMANTICS HAPPENED! With all fairness to this year’s lineup, they were all great, but there is really something unique about Techy Romantics! I just had to stop taking photos and go dance!

Party wasn’t literally over as it was just starting at Today x Future! I love that *what you call that* from PdP!

DSC_0328I caught Techy Romantics’ Camyl before she left X and had a photo. She told me not to hang myself. I think PdP has thought me to love life enough to stay alive, hehe. CHARAUGHT!

And breakfast (yeah, that was breakfast already…) at Mister Kabab before going home.

DSC_0302Oxygen x Marcela Gutierrez graphic tee, Levi’s distressed denim pants, Thrifted military boots, Wrangler denim tote, Paradigm Shift noose neckpiece

Towards the end of the night, I was approached by someone and he happened to not know that I am no longer officially with PdP. He, all of a sudden, thanked me for bringing Cubao X back to life. In those few seconds, I felt a tear jerk. One, because I was once part of this. And two, because all that he said are true.

When I finally recovered last night, I think I spontaneously just smile at the thought of Anteroom Sessions. It was indeed a brainchild and I wish there will be more of this in the coming years. As it grows bigger, I hope more brands will become inspired of what PdP achieved in its smallness and greatness all at the same time. More than the fun, I think how Punchdrunk Panda seeks to advocate the arts is what really amazes me, above all.

Kudos, PdP and Heima, and to all who were involved in this huge endeavor! I will never tire of supporting these guys!

PdP Blogger Hangout v3.0

PdP Blogger Hangouts are the best!!! This is one of my favorites when I was still with Punchdrunk Panda! And I was really touched when Nica and Jen asked me to come to their latest one *sheds a tear*. I super miss hanging out with the PdP team, the bloggers… and I can’t pass up for the yummy grub *insert wide grin here*

Thysz and I were a bit late, and they were already done introducing PdP’s latest skimmers. But we still got to see them, as worn by the bloggers already. Here’s a sneak peek —

The blogger hangout was held at Pipino, the vegan counterpart of Pino at Teacher’s Village. It’s just near work, so I really can’t say no to them :)

DSC_0078Garden Burger. I was told that this was made with banana heart and I was really amazed because it really taste so good. It’s a bit dry, but it’s still fine.

DSC_0079Lots of sidings!!! I love the potato wedges — forever a potato fan!

DSC_0084The Green Tea and Choco Peanut Butter cupcakes are totally to die for… And mind you they are vegan and aren’t made with eggs and milk. My taste buds are confused!

DSC_0113And post-lunch hangout at Moonleaf!!!

Thanks to PdP for the very fun day!

Just got inked!

So my birthday dinner with the fam bam just ended but I still have birthday things going on until the end of next week. And while I am currently lost where and how to start telling you guys how my birthday week went, I think I’ll start with this one.

I know these kind of decisions needs some sort of plan or thinking – or more thinking for that matter; but believe me, for us – Pat and I, all we need was alcohol, sisig, and all the bullshit in life (haha ang emo, kay?) It was all spontaneous, we were drinking and talking about our usual shit on love, when there were bored stares across Tomato Kick and that familiar tattoo shop stood still, where at its doors we once told we’re gonna get inked ourselves.

Finally, the bored words came out of my mouth. But knowing me, it was probably just thinking out loud. And knowing my friend, there’s no way out of this. It was a spur of the moment. It was a now-or-never kind of thing.

Noone gets to judge me, heh.

Not really that I do not want to, to explain my hesitance . In fact, I wanted it so badly. I pride myself for having a high pain threshold, so it’s not the fear of needles. It was just so sudden, I think. And while I’m a fan of spontaneity, I think it’s very different from this suddenness. Actually, it’s not my strongest suit to boot (I don’t know if I have the face to blog about it, but meh that’s another post.)

DSC_0371A tattoo artist’s happy art set

So off we go to 55TINTA and after a few papers to sign, we’re good to go. Pat, usually the braver of us two, went first. Pwede ko ring sabihing gentleman ako, at pinairal ko ang ladies first, but who would believe me, really? Haha!

DSC_0375The room smells so antiseptic. Reminds me of the hospital.

Pat had the word Might inked on her shoulder. Might is a very strong word, meaning both strength and possibilities. Now might is in Pat’s shoulders.

DSC_0384Uh, excuse the thighs.

And mine’s a red shadeless triangle. I really haven’t thought why I want a triangle. Unlike Pat, I really did not put much thought on what to get myself though I have been contemplating this triangle for quite some time. And before you drop the h-word, please know that it’s not my me. I think I just like the shape, and am fascinated how it points up.

DSC_0390And there I was reminded of my college practice injections. Oh how grateful I am I know what is the feeling of being pricked.

As I couldn’t turn my head on a full 180 and I wanted my tattoo on the upper back or nape portion, I asked Pat to position my tattoo for me. She came up with the witty idea of leaving the tip exposed when I’m wearing a shirt….

…something just dawned in me. Most people only get to see me in the surface. And in order for someone to really know me, they have to scratch the surface and strip me. Good call on that, ain’t it?

I really have a long emotional narrative, but I think I’ll keep that thought for a while. For now, I really love my tat and am kinda contemplating if I’ll have one more. Where should I have it kaya? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm… Where’d you put yours?

_MG_1380bKamukha ko daw :P

I like how careful and calculated the film was made, I can actually made a social media case study out of this. And I also like how it targets feelings and emotions and how the makers knew that the only way through people is to use a bit of love, controversy, hatred, and justice. We have to thank Invisible Children for the initiative to inform and mobilize people and eventually they can bring change in the society, what with their number and the impact they’ve already done.

But I guess some people will always see a loophole. Or is there really a loophole to start? I purposely didn’t read anything about KONY 2012 before trying to write about it but I can’t help but overhear controversies surrounding the movement. I tried as hard as I can to become blank before I watched the movie, because whatever good there is may be clouded of influenced judgment and such. It is up to us though how we will find a stand in this.

For whatever it’s worth, I firmly believe that even clouded with controversies, for a movement to last for eight long painstaking years, they must have been doing something right, even if not entirely. And I find no wrong in helping this cause, and not necessarily them. Of course, let’s take our time to do research and try to figure out if these controversies are true or just black propaganda.

It’s easy to help inform people. Either you follow the very simple infographic above or share the movie that you’ve just watched. Or do both. They’re right, you know. Information is power. And if a lot of people will know, will demand, and will act… maybe society stands a chance for change.

P.S. To help shed light on Invisible Children and KONY 2012, here are some readings:

February Roundup

I’ve been a lazy blogger. Oh forgive me.
Here are some photos/stuff I should’ve blogged days ago, but I kept on going home late *hic* and/or was just too lazy. Just lazy. Errrr.
My #MarchWish is to be a more diligent blogger (haha!) and to freaking save some money.

Anyway, I digress!

Post V-date with Coco and Frank

This Spinach and Artichoke cheese dip is seriously clogging my arteries. SO GOOD! I’ll suggest though, if you can request to replace the toast with some more pita, do it. I miss eating at Cyma!! By far, is still the best Mediterranean place in Mega Manila!

My staple order when having Greek at the middle of the day – Lamb Gyros with potato wedges. I really can’t say if the Gyro in Cyma shrunk, but I remember having bigger ones then. Nevertheless the taste still didn’t change. If only I can have this everyday… I’ll have a year only to live, haha! So sinful!

DSC_0512Gandiz!!! Virginal!!! LOL!

Watched The Vow after… with all the hype and cheesiness going on. I didn’t know what to expect after watching it, but after knowing that it was based on a true story, I came to appreciate the story. I really haven’t moved on from One Day and we still watched a depressing love story. Oh, why do I do this to myself? *laughs very hard*

DSC_0522Yuck, I look so fat here!!! And red!

This was the last V-date I had for that week. It was crazy though, I drank everyday, except for V-day itself because it was the busiest. Didn’t regret any of it though. Now, I let my liver rest.

Thysz’s birthday!

I love how the clouds were so perfect on Thysz’s birthday!!! You know my love for clouds… they kinda predict for me whether the day would be good or bad. Yeah, I’m weird like that.

Fierce sisters!!!!!!!!!!

Words aren’t enough to express my gratitude and respect for Mama Thysz and how she really taught me so much for only a little time. Also for giving me a chance of a lifetime to work with her in the company in its infancy stage. Thank you Mama Thysz!!!

Vincent Moon Night with Pate and Hanna

It’s always fun hanging out with these two girls (feel ko kasing girl din ako, chos!) But seriously, it’s been months since I saw them, so I really really miss them! We went to Moon’s Take Away Show screening at Big Bad Wold (which really deserves to be visited again!) As promised, I’ll do a separate blog post on this wonderful, laid back event.

AND OH! It’s Hanna’s birthday today!!! Tweet @cotober and greet her!!!

It’s MARCH already!!! It’s my favorite month. Huzzah for my birthday month! And in traditional Jonver fashion, I’ll be calling it __th of March. Also it used to be vacation month, but whatever happened to it — I feel so old not having summer vacations at all!

But I really want to get away, even for just a couple of days, if only I didn’t use up all my savings… again! I really need to save up godamnit.

For Long Tomorrow

Going home at 6am is the wrongest thing to do (kids, do not imitate lol) but you bet it really felt good after convos over couple of bottles and pares thereafter. I feel weird after though. I was suddenly craving for hot soup – I finished two small bowls in the paresan, two cups mugs at home, and a bowl of shoyu ramen before coming to work. Oh you bet, I’m still craving for some hot soup lovin’ right now.

I met up with Hanna earlier today. Arrived late because my body’s too sore to get up. I did get up, however, I really hate the snooze button now. Anyway, I gave her some of the shirts that I still have for Stereotyped, bought Toe tickets (yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and had lunch at the newly opened Ramen X – yayhotsoupasdfghjkl!!!!

Gyudon rice for H

Mini Shoyu Ramen – loooooooooove the shoyu base!

Say hi to Hanna!

Post-17th of March thingamajig! Who's watching too?Tickets are still available in Team Manila Trinoma and Rockwell branches, at the Doc Martens shop (The Fort)

We’ve been meaning to get tickets from the first day we knew they’re going here! Hanna is a big fan, and let’s just say that I am a happy casualty. Toe’s music is really good for thinking when we were back in college, and we almost used it as scoring for our “films” in college (yes I did some even though I’m a nurse. And no we weren’t able to use it as scoring because it’s too hipster for my school/classmates/professors.)

OH! I hope I don’t forget to blog about Vincent Moon!!! He’s very inspiring, and I really love his videos (although some are so wit.) More on another blog post, I guess.

Last night, we also dropped by the Haute Auteur pop-up by the UP Cineastes’ Studio last night! The silent films were really great! In a bit, I’m off to their awards night at B-side to watch the finalists with live scoring and a good number of local indie bands (read: Techyromantics, Musical O, Encounters With A Yeti, Sleepwalk Circus, Ciudad, Pocket Full Of, The Walkie Talkies, The Black Vomits, and Ivan Theory) are also playing!!

I swear, I’m gonna sleep off the whole of Sunday tomorrow. Or watch some movies for that matter.

P.S. Title is the latest album of Toe (2009) that’s on loop while I’m writing this post.
