Mister x Manila Launch at Greyone Social

DSC_0049

DSC_0047

Carved from the mind, made straight into material, Mister brand puts a modernistic spin on classic men’s attire. The inherently stylish, San Francisco born designers engineer their garments to contain quality and comfort, with superior attention to detail and everlasting style.

DSC_0028

DSC_0030

Largely manufacturing their clothing in San Francisco gives Mister brand the opportunity to not only enrich it’s community, but the capability to chaperon every garments construction from start to finish. Mister, made for all men, and for every wardrobe.

DSC_0043

Here in the Philippines, Mister is exclusively distributed by Greyone Social at Greenbelt 5. Along with brands like Vans, Hellz Bellz, Dissizit, and couple more of hip-hop-skater feel brands, the addition of Mister in the racks of Greyone Social adds an opposite but welcome complement. I particularly liked the minimalist and basic tees with a subtle diversion to prints. Also the reversible collar in the shirt is an interesting piece.

DSC_0044

A couple of accessories like this wooden bow is also part of the Mister collection at Greyone Social. I like how this is in collaboration with our local designers and manufacturers. Dee Jae Paeste, who designed the absolutely amazing pieces for Mister, is a proud supporter of Postura PH, also. Spot him wearing some indigenous tribal accessories below:

I was in Greyone Social as well, so I took the chance to spot some items I think y’all would be interested to:

These shoes are made from paper. But they don’t tear, and are water-proof! Civic Duty sneakers are definitely in my wish list!

Vans shoes can be also bought in the store! My eyes are on the new high cuts!

And several other graphic tees are available… You check Greyone Social’s Tumblr for more of these prints!

One last hurrah for this post: shout out to Greyone Social’s fabulous owner, Ms. Rosario Herrera for personally showing me around, and introducing me to people. She has been a very accommodating host, and it has been a worthwhile trip to Greenbelt, which is a bit far from where I work and live. Well, that’s even aside from Mister’s beautiful collection!

DSC_0026

I thought I’d give ode to the Greyone vibe but I really don’t wanna go all hip-hop ’cause it’s not who I am. This Oxygen top (which fabric btw is perfect for the summer) helped me stick to my own style while deviating for a bit. Added love for this top: I got it for 30% off!!!

What to expect from Battalia Royale?

This post has been sleeping in my drafts folder for weeks already. Before you can blurt out how a bad blogger I am (alright, sometimes I am haha) do bear in mind that it’s just so hard to describe at the least how my actual exact Battalia  Royale experience is like.

I think, as always, the best way to give a biteful of what transpired is to show these photos with extreme fanboy captioning. Forgive the inner fanboy. Haha!

This is already the second set of runs they did for March. It was held at the abandoned Victoria High School in Cubao. The place was eerily perfect and who knew if there were real ghosts and ghouls while we were watching.

DSC_0766

DSC_0768

I wanted to dress up and I couldn’t think of anything but a fashionable Type B military outfit. Kids who didn’t take CAT in High School barely can relate to what Type B is all about.

DSC_0769

DSC_0771

DSC_0775

If you watched Battle Royale, the Japanese dystopia film which you really should watch, you can easily relate to it. There were some scenes that were lifted from the film, and some are tweaked to suit to the Filipino taste, and some are humorous referencing. I remember Kiriyama (Kevin Vitug) blurt out “…quick the hovercraft will come any minute” which is just so Hunger Games, haha!

DSC_0777Forgive the photos of Stephen, #AlamNa

DSC_0783

DSC_0784

There were about five to six stages which the blood-hungry audience should transfer from one to another. So wearing boots may not be your best bet if you have trouble moving around on it. You’ll stand, sit, and as for me, sometimes trip. I brought home bruises in the hands, elbows, knees and eyebrows. It had to come to a point that I had to choose to fall flat in my face to save my camera. But that’s an isolated case. If you’re not as clumsy as I am, you’re good to go.

And oh, if you’re iffy about going home “bloody”, do not wear white! Hahaha, some really intended to go home bloody, but for me I wore black. My mom will annihilate me at the sight of a white shirt drenched in red stuff.

Cameras are allowed (good thing!) but watch out for it. Place would be cramped, blood splashing from anywhere, and you might miss some good scenes. Or you’ll have to pick your face in the floor, if you’re like me.

Be ready to KILL! I don’t know if they’re gonna lift this scene for the September run but a student named Timothy was “auctioned” to the audience to kill. If you act good in the minigame at the start of the play, you’d be awarded to be a part of the  act. WHAT. A. BRILLIANT. IDEA. I love how these people think.

DSC_0862This was supposed to be a gay-ish scene. But Alab (with bandana) was played by a girl

Like almost a mockery of the hideous killings, the students performed the Our Lady of Guadalupe High School like a blisssful batch of graduating students…

OH WHICH REMINDS ME!!!! Congratulations to all graduates of Batch 2012! Go for the kill… errr I mean that dream job!

P.S. Look out for the September 2012 run! Congrats Sipat Lawin Ensembles for the success of Battalia Royale! Like them on Facebook!

Anteroom Sessions is all about showcasing budding independent brands and talent. And as a company that passionately supports creativity through their graphic-designed products, Punchdrunk Panda acknowledges others who actively follow their creative inclinations, and provided this avenue to share their passion with others.

With the success of last year’s Anteroom Sessions, Punchdrunk Panda will be holding another leg of the Anteroom Sessions at a bigger venue to bring a bigger crowd to the event.

Anteroom Sessions 2 will be held in partnership with home & lifestyle brand Heima at Cubao Expo on March 31, 2012 from 4-11pm. In keeping with the idea behind Anteroom Sessions, there will be indie music performances, pop-up shops, paper crafts, and webisodes screenings about the design teams for Punchdrunk Panda’s new skimmer collection, which will be launched during the event. Punchdrunk Panda’s skimmer design teams include JP Cuison & Saab Magalona, Ge Mapa & Selena Salang, Kitkat Pecson & Patricia Prieto, Kasey Albano & Arriane Serafico, and Robbie Bautista & Cheyser Pedragosa.

The first Anteroom Sessions started as a modest idea to show off some Punchdrunk Panda sample products at a milk tea place while screening photo shoot webisodes and having a DJ (a coaxed boyfriend) mix some tunes. Gradually, the idea grew and grew, and with everyone who decided to come on board with Punchdrunk Panda for this event, Anteroom Sessions became bigger than the team imagined.

UP Pep Squad’s ELEV80’s is a spin off of the normal thanksgiving concert of one of the best and leading cheerdance crew in the country! But this year, they give tribute to the wonderful decade that is the 80’s! I hate to admit it but I almost knew every song that  they danced to. How can’t I – my parents used them as lullabies when I was little, and I cannot deny that I ain’t an 80’s baby indeed! I was really happy, with a tinge of shame, to sing along to a lot of songs, haha!

Congratulations to the UP Pep Squad for a very successful show! Also, thank you for our good seats! It was a great show indeed!

We’re a tad bit late, but hey we made it!! Didn’t get to go in though. Talked and talked with friends instead, drank a lil, erm… stalked a lil; lol zeh crush was in the area… but I still succumbed into sending that BBM message and meeting him instead. Yes, now I remembered that I forgot to take a photo of him. Anyway, it was a chill fun night, and looking forward to nights like this.

For the record, that week, I ate squidballs everyday. Idk with myself.

I have to credit Hanna for being such a great source of information! I still got to go even at short notice, also albeit all the plans I make for Thursday nights. Like really. Thursday is the new weekend.

Big Bad Wolf in The Fort is the perfect place for such gatherings… There’s a big blank wall, couches, and board games! But of course, we didn’t get to play… we were there to watch the Take Away shows by Vincent Moon (Mathieu Saura) who has traveled around the world to capture different indie bands perform in the streets (or just perform anyway. He just finds new ways to film music and musicians.) It was a kind of surreal moment for me and my friends as we ourselves have dreamed for the longest time to travel the world. Double whammy for Hanna for wanting to do exactly what Vincent has been doing in the last 10 years.

DSC_0574

DSC_0578

Like, really? Ten years of traveling? On minimal budget, on a backpack, and only with your camera? It’s a dream, yes. Us, wide eyed, and him eyeing us to donate. It was a fundraiser after all – to support an artist, a fellow dreamer who has been living the dream. (Oh why am I being so dreamy now.)

DSC_0579

DSC_0580

Here’s to continuing the passion, Vincent! I may be financially incapable right now, but I want you to know that people appreciate what you’re doing!

Treat yourself to some Vincent Moon-lovin’ here:

P.S. He’s here for three weeks (I think on his second week now already) so if you see Vincent Moon, say hi. He’s super nice!

For Long Tomorrow

Going home at 6am is the wrongest thing to do (kids, do not imitate lol) but you bet it really felt good after convos over couple of bottles and pares thereafter. I feel weird after though. I was suddenly craving for hot soup – I finished two small bowls in the paresan, two cups mugs at home, and a bowl of shoyu ramen before coming to work. Oh you bet, I’m still craving for some hot soup lovin’ right now.

I met up with Hanna earlier today. Arrived late because my body’s too sore to get up. I did get up, however, I really hate the snooze button now. Anyway, I gave her some of the shirts that I still have for Stereotyped, bought Toe tickets (yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and had lunch at the newly opened Ramen X – yayhotsoupasdfghjkl!!!!

Gyudon rice for H

Mini Shoyu Ramen – loooooooooove the shoyu base!

Say hi to Hanna!

Post-17th of March thingamajig! Who's watching too?Tickets are still available in Team Manila Trinoma and Rockwell branches, at the Doc Martens shop (The Fort)

We’ve been meaning to get tickets from the first day we knew they’re going here! Hanna is a big fan, and let’s just say that I am a happy casualty. Toe’s music is really good for thinking when we were back in college, and we almost used it as scoring for our “films” in college (yes I did some even though I’m a nurse. And no we weren’t able to use it as scoring because it’s too hipster for my school/classmates/professors.)

OH! I hope I don’t forget to blog about Vincent Moon!!! He’s very inspiring, and I really love his videos (although some are so wit.) More on another blog post, I guess.

Last night, we also dropped by the Haute Auteur pop-up by the UP Cineastes’ Studio last night! The silent films were really great! In a bit, I’m off to their awards night at B-side to watch the finalists with live scoring and a good number of local indie bands (read: Techyromantics, Musical O, Encounters With A Yeti, Sleepwalk Circus, Ciudad, Pocket Full Of, The Walkie Talkies, The Black Vomits, and Ivan Theory) are also playing!!

I swear, I’m gonna sleep off the whole of Sunday tomorrow. Or watch some movies for that matter.

P.S. Title is the latest album of Toe (2009) that’s on loop while I’m writing this post.

Daily Inspiration: Personal Blogs

Late at midnight, I found myself coughing and having a hoarse feel down my throat. I can’t remember what I drank or ate, or what I did to have caused this. All I knew was that I have work in x hours, and I can’t be sick like this. *cough, sniff* So much for inspiration, haha. It is really quite odd I’m blogging about inspirations in between chills and aching muscles.

However, random inspirations are my daily vitamins. I don’t know where to find them, but they just pop anywhere – from a random quirky shop downtown, a little act of kindness, a playful, witty tweet, an eye-ergonomic blog layout, an ambitious shortlist of places to be at… and the list can just go on and on. It can be even the cool breeze that frequents Manila atmosphere lately (not now though; with aching muscles, I can’t possible approve of it.) Lately, I’ve been reading blogs and people behind these blogs who share their experiences are really becoming a sustainable source of inspiration.

I’ve been allotting good hours in the morning to check my Google Reader and every once in a while, a photo or a blurb can really brighten my day. No I ain’t stalking, ’cause I do that in midnights *snicker* (There, I’ve said it. LOL) Alright, I digress. Inasmuch I am really envious for those people living the life, people who really are uber-productive and self-dependent, I am also very challenged to step up my game and run the race. A good, healthy type of envy, if you may.

A little disclaimer though, not all personal blogs are inspiring. I was once a rant whore and I used to spread a plaguing depression on my readers. So I really give it up for inspiring personal bloggers for controlling their emotions. No matter how they want to bitch about something, they’d always settle for a politically correct way to tell it to their readers. And that’s a good point for creativity as well! How well one conceals emotions but just as well present the situation sufficiently requires a writer, or blogger for that matter, to be creative about how to relate this.
