Cinemalaya Opening Night

This is it! The premiere indie film festival in the country, CINEMALAYA, had just started. July is the film festival month here in the Philippines extending up to October and sometimes November. I love going to film festivals because it’s free. Well, not for Cinemalaya though. I don’t mind paying up, still, because I know it’s helping out local indie film directors/studios. This country has yet to support the smaller studios, and Cinemalaya is a way for them to showcase their talents, and to be appreciated. So kudos, Cinemalaya for your 7th year!

And yes, Maskara was a heartfelt movie. Congratulations to Pixelgrain and Ms. Laurice Guillen for being chosen as the opening film!

Read about and catch the other Cinemalaya 7 films here. Let us support our rich local cinema! I’m excited for this year’s roster of films!
