Silverlens Gallery

Manila is a bustling art scenestealer, filled to the brim with the brightest (and sometimes darkest) artists this age has ever seen. This blogs now brings you some of the local art scenes that has been making quite a buzz in the industry.

A Token of our Friendship; Philippine Photos of Male Affection, First Half of the 20th Century by John Silva was put up as a primer to its book form. The gallery shows various photographs from the old Philippines that subtly shows love of the male kind. The event was attended to by some media personalities, local art enthusiasts, and gallery regulars.

EDIT: There was a talk last July 2, for this gallery. However, due to insistent public demand, John Silva will repeat it on July 23 and 30, 3-5pm at the Silverlens Gallery (address at the end of the post.) You should also RSVP at manage@silverlensphoto.com if you want to be reserved a seat. Great! See yah!

On the other side of Silverlens Main is SLab, another gallery, housing On the Radar: Six New Symptoms curated by Gary-Ross Pastrana featuring Catalina Africa, Dina Gadia, Gail Vicente, Marija Vicente, Ryan Villamael and Maria Jeona. This is where art defies logic. Imagine your own meaning. I personally find some pieces equally calming and disturbing. I am proud that these artists are Filipino!

The lat gallery, is at the corner of SLab lies 20SQUARE, another space by Silverlens, featuring Few and Far Between by Hanna Pettyjohn. The collection gives you a feeling of the rough countryside, with a little turbulence in between.
