Boracay in Maginhawa!

DSC_0327

It was a sunny summer afternoon in Maginhawa. And a certain tea shop that goes by the name of Moonleaf held the summer party that ended all summer parties this year. Milk tea + bands + free photo booth and henna + TWO new tea flavors? What more can you ask for? OH YEAH — summer rain and dancing in it like nobody cares!

Caffeine Creature

Back in college, I’d literally run on coffee, milk tea, and Coke Zero. It still is the case nowadays, but I now take more proper meals and I am so happy that there are more choices around the metro today!

Viet Coffee is something I’ve been hearing about for a long time. But my previous Pho Hoa experience really hindered me to try it. Last Sunday, it was the only quiet place in the mall, and I’m dying to finish my book. This for P110 is not bad. I love the almost ceremonial preparation for this. It tastes good too – I’m no foodie when it comes to coffee, I just know it when I like it :)

DSC_0712

Yuan Yang at Toast Box is a quirky medley of two of my favorite caffeinated drinks. I really can’t identify the two different tastes but, again, what I know is that I approve of its taste (haha, don’t kill me if I can’t give out very concrete descriptions about these drinks. Just trust me, haha) Definitely keeps me awake when I need to! Not a rip off also, it’s just for P75!

I bet you wouldn’t expect this to be in the list, and I can’t explain either to myself why I am obsessing over this drink for almost a month already! This Iced Premium Roast Coffee from Mcdo is really a surprising number from the fast food chain. I really have little, bordering to no, affection for hot coffee, so it was really the iced ones for me. And this is my current favorite, and it’s just P45! Perfect with chicken nuggets while nursing a hangover!

Of course, this caffeinated post will not be complete without my favorite tea from Moonleaf. Throw in a Hakka Milk Tea in a stressed and sleepy day and get yourself up and running again! Or if you’re on the less sweeter side, I recommend you try Wintermelon Black Tea which pretty much reminds me of coffee but tastes like tea (okay, idk anymore this post hahaha)

Are you a caffeine creature too? Share below your favorites! I’d like to try new ones!

So last weekend didn’t feel any rest at all, neither work. So I guess, it is a party (haha corny part where I correlate the first photo to the first paragraph #fail) Anyway, we had a garage sale for a cause at Moonleaf Maginhawa. Jen, the ever-so-kabowg Twitter celebrity (nuks!) organized this.

Friends started to come and I think we did a pretty good job in selling, haha.  Saturday was really just starting, and as my friend told us, Moonleaf is where a day probably start or end. Wala lang gusto ko lang sabihin yun, ket ba? HAHA!

Then off we went to Cubao X for Hello Sailor, Tokwa Penaflorida and Soleil Ignacio’s art exhibit at Heima. I miss the olive scent Heima stores have, add to that their homey feel and familiar faces of friends dropping by.

We didn’t miss the opportunity to see the other ganap in the area. THE Clothing are launching their new line of shirts, and I Love You Store is just being that always awesome indie fashion shop that it is. Grabbed some new specs (for P250, it’s a steal!) at I Love You Store and drooled at a tank top that my friend got already (so most prolly I won’t buy it,arte lang.) But I still got my eyes on a shirt in THE, a couple of accessories and tops at I Love You Store. Yay for broke-ness… NOT!

So typically that’s how a staycation weekend looks like for me. Random activities + friends + booze + mainly Cubao X. I need to see an island soon, but I’m still having so much fun here in the city.

Are you in staycation as well? How’s your summer so far?

Have a Moonleaf Summer everyone!

These are just some of the behind-the-scenes of our shoot for The Moonleaf Summer 2012 Campaign shot by Joseph Pascual and filmed by Judd Figuerres. The locations were Maginhawa street and the vast grassy area that is the University of the Philippines – Diliman. I had the honor to tag along and experience working with these amazing people… oh just look how much fun we are having.

One of the perks of working at Teacher’s Village is that friends come and go all the time. It’s so near the university that it instantly becomes the third place after school/work and home. For some, it is their home, workplace, and hang out place in one! You cannot run out of places to eat/drink/hang at because it’s just bustling with all these potential places. I wish I could try them all!

Hop in a car, ride a cab, or even just walk – and you can just reach the nearby UP, which is a sight in its own. I’ve seen many a photo shoot happened here, and who could even know a grass land this vast can be found in the middle of the city? It’s perfect for picnics, too! Whatever floats your boat!

This is what I wore to the IMMAP Open Mic Night last Friday at the Salon de Ning. The occasion called for classy chic, collared tops a must for men, and my closet was really nowhere close that, because for all I know I am a tee-jeans-kicks type of guy, sometimes edgy. I seldom wear shirts, especially short-sleeved ones because either it’s too small for me, it make me look lousy. However I really like the fit of this chambray shirt from Tomato Green, actually all of their shirts, and am currently in love with the denim on denim concept. Plus, it’s really soft and comfy and kept me dry from my sweaty self (haha, TMI I know) at the middle of this hot summer season.

ANTEROOM SESSIONS 2: Double the fun!

MARCH 31 — Exactly six months and 28 days ago, we held the very first Anteroom Sessions at Moonleaf Maginhawa. I was an intern at Punchdrunk Panda then, and we just wanted to launch some new kicks, with a couple of bands playing, while still making sales. It was just a simple, very simple, musing. Until after some meetings, we decided to take on five bands, a couple of DJs, six brands, and a video production team on board. To cut the story short, we were overwhelmed with the outcome of what we were able to come up with then. Up until now, I still feel kilig whenever I look back at the very first Anteroom Sessions. It was the highlight of my internship, and I can say with all confidence that it was my biggest project for PdP. (Sorry for the emotive tone, I can get very emotional with this, hehe)

DSC_0181

AND NOW IT HAS GONE OUT OF PROPORTIONS! A month before I was surprised to know that the second Anteroom Sessions will be held at CUBAO X! It shocked me and it instantly brought me back to my internship days where I first envisioned PdP at — exactly at the SAME SPOT as I saw them last night. It was surreal, and PdP didn’t disappoint.

This year, I really felt where Anteroom Sessions came from!!! Seven bands, two DJs, thirteen proudly Filipino brands, and a whole lot of FUN awaited people – indeed MORE FUN WITH PUNCHDRUNK PANDA! I think I’ll shut my mouth a bit, and let these photos speak for itself *giddy*

Aside from the awesome, awesome lineup, 13 brands also participated and sold their proudly Filipino products! One of Punchdrunk Panda’s PdP-losophy is to, in any way possible, be proud of their Filipino roots – and here’s adhering to that value.

Towards the end of the night, I was approached by someone and he happened to not know that I am no longer officially with PdP. He, all of a sudden, thanked me for bringing Cubao X back to life. In those few seconds, I felt a tear jerk. One, because I was once part of this. And two, because all that he said are true.

When I finally recovered last night, I think I spontaneously just smile at the thought of Anteroom Sessions. It was indeed a brainchild and I wish there will be more of this in the coming years. As it grows bigger, I hope more brands will become inspired of what PdP achieved in its smallness and greatness all at the same time. More than the fun, I think how Punchdrunk Panda seeks to advocate the arts is what really amazes me, above all.

Kudos, PdP and Heima, and to all who were involved in this huge endeavor! I will never tire of supporting these guys!
