I missed watching this on TV, but yay because GMA’s so quick to post it online! Spot Moonleaf in the segment! Special thanks to @stacydejesus for giving me heads up that it’s available online already. Lurve you, girl!:)
Grabbed the opportunity to do a photowalk of Chinatown even though I was running an hour late for our tweetup. I love Chinatown in the morning – it’s so busy and bustling with life. Also, I’m so excited for this tweetup – it’s been months since I’ve seen these people! Yay for tweetup and Chinese food = perfect combo!
Thank you Cafe Mezzanine for sponsoring our first tweetup for 2012
Kiampong. I love the nutty, machang-y flavor of the rice.
Asado. Best asado I’d had. Love that it ain’t too sweet.
Chinese Kikiam. Not a fan, but it’s fine.
Gokong. I love meaty soups. This one’s super pasok sa banga!
Cafe Mezzanine is inherited and now owned by Gerry Chua a.k.a. Mr. Ube (also, owner of hopiang ube fame Eng Bee Tin.) They serve Xiamen, or Chinese street style, which according to Mr. Ube himself is the major Chinese cuisine predominant in the Philippines. What makes this place special is that 100% of their profit goes to the Binondo-Paco Fire Department and to TXTFIRE.
Yellow row: Reg, Ramon, Raffy.
Firemen’s cup, eh?
Mr. Ube is so funny and animated. He told us stories of his business, his life, and his volunteerism. Such an inspiring man, if you ask our group.
Mr. Ube wanted to show us the TXTFIRE office and facilties, so he invited us over at their HQ. It was a bit surprising to find technology like this in the middle of Chinatown.
As if the day did not lead us to tire ourselves already, we found ourselves still walking around Chinatown. This time, in search of butter chicken.
Don’t let the signage fool you. They serve really yummy Chinese food!
Butter Chicken. Satisfy thy craving for chicken and fat. Perfect while hot.
Oyster cake. I can taste the sea in my mouth! Plenty of oyster bits in a glutinous omelette.
Scallops and broccoli. Our ONLY veggie meal, but equally delicious. I just wish there are bigger scallops in this dish.
Machang. Note to self: Do not eat this by yourself. Incredibly heavy rice cake with chunks (read: big) of meat inside.
Chinese Kikiam. Again, not a fan. But this one’s better than Mezzanine’s
We still weren’t done after eating like there’s no tomorrow. Coffee and Asado ensued at Cafe Sa Lido. Don’t ask why, it’s yummy and it’s reason enough to do it. No pictures though. Either I was too tired, too full, or too happy to snap one.
P.S. This is our longest tweetup ever. Lasted for almost eight hours! Are we gunning for 12 the next time, tweeps?
P.S.S. Wanna join us in our next adventure, follow us in Tumblr or like us in Facebook to know more about us.
It seems appropriate that the first event I’ve been to this year is with friends and colleagues in one partey! Lurve it!
Of course, I came straight from Moonleaf
Kung Hei Partey was held in The Bond Urban Pub in Makati City. One, I never knew of a Pub in Manila. Two, I love the place, just the right kind of chill…
Oxygen long-sleeved asymmetrical tee, Penshoppe semi-glossy pants, Thrifted military boots, Bosquejo hashtag necklace.
You know how I love neutrals, and how it works on almost any occasion. I tried being in theme though – like wearing something red or something chino, but I was pressed for time. Just be sure to stand out by choosing a different cut (lol, blog?) like asymmetrical pieces for that matter. Also, when in doubt, always go neutral. That sounds like a political advice, though :P
More photos from Life Dawn Photography. Remember my post about taking photos? I looooooove having official photographers in events (especially if they post it in Facebook so quickly!)
Thanks to our sponsors. Chos!
Quiz night is the best! Look at OUR reactions. Yeah, that’s right! Look at others too, not just on my wide-opened hole!
Thysz = Most Valuable Player
Didn’t get a chance to talk to these guys, but they’re really funny, I just need to post a photo of their live-drawn memes!
KUNG HEI FASHION! WE WON!!!
Thank you Netbooster Asia for a very eventful night! This one’s for the keeps!
No, this isn’t about Jessie J’s Domino. It’s just on repeat ’cause it’s LSS of the week :P
*I planned on putting the music video here, but I just did a few days back, so just scroll down, hehe*
So Pat was just here at the office, coming straight from her new job, and we pseudo-celebrated her employment to a job she really likes. I’d really like us to drink, but I’m still sick (and because I drank last night, too. Sucha brat.) So instead we hit Crazy Katsu for a quick dinner. I missssssssssssss Patricia (lol, buo) and I kinda made kwento of my pseudo-budding relationship. Okay, let’s not call it that. Baka mausog.
Anyway, I would’ve loved and could’ve taken pictures of tonight’s dinner, but alas, I hate myself for not bringing my camera. I almost brought it today just because I feel I wanna take pictures… of anything. But my back really hurt from bringing a lot of stuff yesterday, hence the sloth in me whispered: Do not bring the ginormous thang. Bleh. Why do I have to listen, no?
So maybe really what I need is a smaller camera that can take intensely beautiful pictures. Or a photographer!!! Photos of last night’s Kung Hei Partey was just posted, and I love the photos. Yes, I’m just so tamad to take photos now. Duh, di ba halata, lols. Look at previous posts. And look below!!!
Fayatola ko inferrr. With Ade, David, Thysz, Mishie, and Ros. Charls in the background… or was he photobombing?
Been a while since I had my picture taken with other people in an event. It really felt good to just dance in the moonlight (sige na, para coherent sa pamagat :P) and not worry about pictures, haha. So not a blogger statement, eh? No, really, I enjoyed last night’s thingamajig because I just had fun – eat, drink, and be merry. It didn’t matter if I didn’t take pictures, ’cause there are people who did! Yay, haha.
I sound a bad blogger right now. HAHA! Maybe I just miss having pictures of me with people, that is. Maybe Instagram can help. Oh iPad, how much longer will you make me wait?
The almost empty wallet answers, “Til you learn how to stop spending!!!”
P.S. It’s the first event I’ve been to this year, and it’s just the perfect kickoff!!! Thank you Netbooster Asia!
Oh! Please come visit the Metropolitan Museum for the exhibit of my friends! I’m really so proud of you, guys! This exhibit reminds me to explore the city more despite the hassles (sorry, but you share this with me, I should know) of urban life here in the Philippines. Not to be confused with though, I love Manila (and Pasay for that matter.) There are just some things that are really hard to love, despite you know, your passion for your city or country.
“One Day in the City: Pasay” is a photographic exhibit focusing on Pasay City. The show depicts facets of the urban fabric and the experience of city dwellers as seen thru the eyes of student photographers from the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde AB Photography program. The photography project is a way of showing how life is in one part of a 21st century Asian megalopolis like Metro Manila, and will provide a counterpoint and a response to the Spanish photography show “Photo By Photo: A Portrait of Spain” recently exhibited at the Met.
The exhibit features the works of the following photographers:
Ralph Acasio, Joey Alvero, Jay Man Bravo, Joyce Co, Inna Cristobal, Joy Cruz, Inno Delarmente III, Louise Anne Manuel, Jesed Moreno, Artu Nepomuceno, Justin Reyes, Cai Soriano, Remington Tiu, Apple Marie Villalobos and Arrianne Yonzon.
The exhibit also features works of Spanish photographer Txema Salvans made during his recent Manila visit.
“One Day in the City: Pasay” runs up to March 31, 2012 at the Tall Galleries of the Metropolitan Museum of Manila. The show is organized by the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde School of Design and Arts, The City Government of Pasay, Canon Marketing Philippines Inc. and the Spanish Embassy- Manila.
This serves as your invitation for the show opening on Thursday, January 26, 2012, 6pm at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila.
This graphic (found in Tumblr) is just so inspiring. A good alternative to a checklist. I can cross out the bottom right one, but I still want to be back there!
This is one random playlist I’ve been listening to since I got sick just this last weekend. Hey, no judgin’, okay? —
What Makes You Beautiful – One Direction
You know me well enough if you know that I’m in it for the boys rather for the song/tunes/melody/shit I say when I turn these kind of songs on the loop. HAHA! The teenybopper me witnessed the birth (and demise, actually) of boy bands. I think there’s a boy band revival going on with all of these boy bands in the music scene. (No, not just KPOP. No offense.) Just look at how lovely Zayn Malik’s eyes are!!! I’m not sick all of a sudden. CHOS!
We Found Love – Rihanna
It’s no secret this is my current LSS so yeah, let’s put RiRi in this playlist… BUT WAIT! Watch this Bangkok version — this will make you laugh so hard you’d feel like your intestines coming out of your mouth! I’ll give props to my Thai sisters for sucha good rendition! RiRi would approve and be ashamed all at the same time!
Domino – Jessie J
Been hearing a lot about this song (yes, especially from my crush who frequently uses lyrics for BBM status) so I tried to give it a try. It had me dancin’ in the moonlight. Not too party, I approve! And oh, I love whoever styled Jessie J for the MV!
Stronger (What doesn’t kill you) – Kelly Clarkson
My song for all those who have bleeding ailing hearts/bodies/whatnots/or in my case, bronchitis (charot, kungwari hindi emo :P) Listen to Mama Kelly – What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Srsly, I love Kelly’s songs ’cause they don’t just apply to love (contrary to what others think.) I’m beginning to think that Kelly Clarkson is the rockstar version of Oprah.
Mr. Know It All – Kelly Clarkson
Alright, I know it’s kinda baduy to put the same artist in one playlist. But I just can’t help to include this song. Just so because I have someone to sing this to. NOT. BITTER. PERIOD. CHOS, HAHA!
Last Friday Night – Katy Perry
Because Friday is the last day my lungs were doing its function and not the antithesis of it, and Katy Perry was here and was so landi in her concert yesterday!!!
Glad You Came – The Wanted
Hahaha, need I explain myself? I think this is One Direction after some seven years. Though, seriously I like the beat of the song. Very coherent to what seems to be the feel of this playlist. Hey, this is a random playlist – no judging! :P
Rumor has it – Adele
My favorite Adele song so far, after Rolling in the Deep and Turning Tables. Amazing tunes, really. I really envy that we are almost just the same age and there she goes making waves already. 22 is not young, but not old yet, I always tell myself. You stand as an inspiration, Adele. Though seriously, stop smoking.
What The Water Gave Me – Florence + The Machine
This is my favorite from their Ceremonials album. I always feel spiritual whenever I hear Florence Welch sing. I know this sounds kinda cliche, but their songs really speak to the soul. It soothes a certain wound in the heart, if you know what I mean. I definitely would kill for a VIP seat if Florence + The Machine comes here and have a concert!
Every Teardrop is a Waterfall – Coldplay
Coldplay is on every playlist I’ve played for the past three months already. I love love love Coldplay and am really brokenhearted to find out they’re not going here for their concert tour. Anyway, Every Teardrop is a Waterfall is my favorite from their latest album, Mylo Xyloto (which I used to type as Xylo Myloto, so awkwaaaard) I’m no music expert and I can’t describe what I start to feel whenever I hear Coldplay playing (on the player, that is.) But all I know is that I feel happy and free when I listen to them.
And again, from the top.
***
For those following me on Twitter you might have known this already. I hate being sick, especially if it has something to do with my lungs. I’m almost bedridden for the last couple of days, and I really loathe not being able to do anything (I can’t even sleep because I can’t breathe) for the whole day. Spent the weekend coughing, sniffing, running to bathroom to spit phlegm (alright, TMI, I know) and I think I downed around ten pills just for the weekend, and my mouth really taste so bitter now. I could really use a trusty serving of Jasmine Aloe Vera now.
Whew, what a rant. Actually, I’m feeling a bit better now but I still can’t go out of the house. So I guess, I’ll just keep listening to these party upbeat songs til I can go out and see friends again.
Oh, bummer. This on repeat or I’ll just watch Gossip Girl S05E11 a lil’ later. No judging.
